I have to admit after my first 4 cars over more than a decade were all manuals I’m in love with my automatic Grand Cherokee. Remote start in Michigan is the greatest thing ever created, not having to restart again at every light possible, and on the sporty front (unrelated to article) our roads are straight and boring as hell. Some of my complaints were due to engines that had to be kept on boil, but for commuting I completely see the appeal of an automatic, especially in an SUV.

I really think manuals will be relegated to play thing cars and their take rates their will remain higher as long as ICE is around... though who knows how long that will be. I can’t wait for another fun manual for the occasional day/weekends, but I’ve drank the koolaid and bow to my slushbox overlords for my slogging god awful commute.

Really wish you could get one in a Macan, and that they still offered one in the CX-5.

The biggest thing I miss about working at FCA was the manual Renegade I drove. I personally liked the turbo- 4 over the T igershark. They killed the option for 2019
